For Grades 4-6
National Elementary Honor Society or
NEHS
NEHS is a student recognition program for elementary schools and students in grades 4, 5, and 6 that acknowledges the achievements of students and engages them in their education in ways that add value to their lives. This program will begin this year at SES and you will be receiving more information in the near future about the program and the requirements for induction into the program.
Student recognition must be more than simple praise if it is to empower and motivate students and relay an effective messeage from school leaders regarding student achievement. While praise has its place in many aspects of interaction between students and adults at school, and NEHS chapter provides a more public recognition of student accomplishments and then perpetuates the motivation that recognition brings by engaging those students in meaningful activities of leadership development and service to the school and community.
The leaders of the NEHS chapter must provide activities and projects that involve students in learning by doing. This distinguishes NEHS from the honr roll and other recognition-only programs-the "work" of the chapter following induction is equally as important as the initial recognition.
