Subjects Taught
First Grade

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of West Alabama in Elementary Education in May of 2000.

I received my Masters in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama in August of 2003. I am highly qualified to teach Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.

I strongly believe in continuing my education so I can deliver the most current teaching strategies to my students. I LOVE to learn and I want to pass that love for learning onto every student I teach. I am continually attending professional development training to further expand my education. I have been trained to teach reading strategies through ARI (Alabama Reading Initiative). I am an AMSTI (Alabama Math Science and Technology Initiative) certified teacher. I curently serve on Semmes Elementary's Professional Learning Team for implementing the Common Core Standards in mathematics, and I have had the priviledge to experience Collaborative Conversation Training, which has allowed me to become a true facilitator within my students' conversations.

I had the honor of serving as Semmes Elementary's Teacher of the Year during the 2011 and 2012 school year. It was such a priviledge to be chosen among such a talented faculty, and it is an honor I will always cherish.

This school year will be my seventeenth year to teach school.  I have had the priviledge of teaching fifth grade, second grade, and first grade. Currently I am teaching first grade, and I absolutely love it!!

Let's Get to Know Mrs. Malcom

Hello! My name is Stephanie Malcom and I am very excited to be teaching at Semmes Elementary for yet another wonderful school year. I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I attended elementary, middle, and high school in Mobile County. I graduated from Mary G. Montgomery in 1996, and headed off the following fall to the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama to begin working on my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I had always known I had wanted to be a teacher, so deciding what to major in was so easy for me. I graduated from UWA in 2000, and landed my first teaching job outside of Tuscaloosa in Bibb County as a fifth grade teacher. In the fall of 2001, I was hired in Jackson County, Mississippi to teach second grade at East Central Lower Elementary. I taught there for five years, and during that five years I married my sweet husband, Skipper Malcom, earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and gave birth to my extraordinary twins Aidan and Emmett. I gave birth to another amazing little girl named Vivi Anne in the summer of 2010, and we became a family of five. This will be my eleventh school year at Semmes Elementary, and I am very honored to be a part of such an outstanding school and community. I am looking forward to another exciting school year, and I hope that all of you are as well!
